Why do all photographers want me to print my photos?

Visualize a moment like this one: You’ve dropped your senior off at college. You drive home. The car is quiet, too quiet. You walk back into your home and your eyes are a little wetter than when you left. The house is quiet, too quiet. You don’t know why but you just start walking around the house, hunting for all the photos of them. You stay in that night and snuggle up with your warm cozy drink.

What's actually up on your wall is going to matter more in that moment^^ than it does today. That's the whole reason I care so much about what happens after your gallery gets delivered, not just what happens during the session itself. Photos are also directly tied to a child’s self worth and growing up with their faces on the walls give them a massive amount of confidence to carry with them. Print a lot and print as soon as you can.

1. The Ordinary Moments Hit the Hardest

When our daughter was one, I took a photo of her with breakfast crumbs and mushy goodness smeared across her whole face. I printed it big, like really big, on acrylic, and hung it dead center in our living room. My wife looked at me like I'd lost my mind. Four years later, we stop in front of that photo all the time. It's not all of our other immaculately polished shots that gets us to stop and pause. It's that one.

The senior photos you choose to print don't have to be the most technically perfect images from the gallery, although many times they can be. But the photos you print could be the ones that feel like your kid is close enough to touch. Give yourself permission to pick the weird one, the laughing one, the one that isn't trying too hard. And get the perfect one too, you’ll likely find a spot for it.

2. It Should Look Like Them, Not Like Everyone Else's Wall

A senior portrait or a family portrait on your wall should tell you something true about who ya’ll actually are right now, not just how you looked for an hour. That's exactly why I build sessions around your senior's real personality instead of a generic pose list. What ends up printed should feel unmistakably like them, whether that's in a backyard, a favorite park, or somewhere entirely their own.

3. This Is the Part That Gets Passed Down

Digital files live in a cloud somewhere, which is fine for backup. It’s getting progressively more difficult to recover those files from backups too, especially if you need to do it from a device that is not your own. The photos on your wall are what your senior sees every day until they leave, and what you'll see every day after they do. Eventually, they're what your grandkids see too. That's not decoration. That's how a family remembers itself.

4. Senior Year Is Full of Moments Worth Keeping

Between the last first day of school, the games, the late nights, and everything else senior year throws at you, there's a lot happening that deserves more than a phone photo. A senior session gives you one deliberate chance to capture who they are right now, on purpose, instead of catching it accidentally in the background of something else.

5. Your Home Changes Because of What's On the Walls

Paint changes everything, we’ve already learned that. But I wish more people paid attention to well-chosen wall art. It doesn't just decorate a room, it changes how the room feels. Keep the paint, change the printed photo, it’s easier and just as impactful. The right photo in the right spot might become the thing you notice every single day, in all the best ways… especially once the house gets a little quieter than it used to be.
