Tipping is not standard etiquette the way it is for a server or a hairstylist. Most full time senior and portrait photographers like myself, build their full costs, time, and expertise into their session and package pricing, so a tip isn't baked into the expectation the way it might be for an hourly service employee.

That said, "not required" doesn't mean "unwelcome." If your photographer went above and beyond — extra time, extra creativity, just an amazing overall experience, some clients like to show appreciation with something in the $20–$50 range, which is enough to say thank you without feeling obligatory. For me, personally, if you’re looking to show gratitude, I prefer other ways.

A glowing Google/YELP/Facebook review and a referral to a friend who's also a senior goes significantly further for a small, local business and often means more than cash.
